PROTEOMICS
sequence alignment

Proteomics involves the systematic separation, identification and characterization of the proteins present in a sample of tissue, or of a biological fluid, at a given time. All biological processes, including diseases and responses to drugs, involve changes in proteins, and the total protein profile (the proteome) can vary during the development of an organism, maturation of cell types and tissues, and progression and treatment of disease. Identifying and characterizing this profile can allow greater knowledge and understanding of biology in health and disease than is currently available and should be crucial in the discovery and development of therapeutic proteins, drug targets and diagnostics.
